Depending on the location in Canada, communication and some or all of the work undertaken by Kolasky fellows will be conducted in either or both of the official languages, English or French. Fellowship candidates, therefore, are expected to possess a matching level of language proficiency.

One-year Stasiuk Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship for the Study of Modern and Contemporary Ukraine 2016
One-year Stasiuk Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the Humanities and Social Sciences is offered annually to support the development of the study of modern and contemporary Ukraine. The fellowship is for one year (with the possibility of renewal, subject to review). Although all applications in fields associated with the Humanities and Social Sciences will be considered, research proposals in the area of identities, nationalism, regions, borders, social values, historical politics, and memory will be given preference.
To qualify, applicants must have received a PhD or candidate of sciences degree (if from Ukraine or other post-Soviet country) within the past three years at the time of application. Applicants who are scheduled to receive their degree by the end of June 2016 are also eligible to apply, but must submit documents confirming this. Successful applicants are expected to take up their post-doc appointments and be affiliated with the Program on Contemporary Ukraine of CIUS between September 1 and October 31, 2016. In addition to working on their research project, Stasiuk Research Fellows will be expected to assist and participate in the planning and activities of CIUS.
This competition is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign nationals. The annual stipend is $38,000. In addition to the stipend, the award includes economy airfare to and from Edmonton, and supplemental health benefits. An additional $2,000 is available for research-related expenses. Recipients of the Stasiuk Fellowship may not hold another fellowship concurrently. The Stasiuk Fellowship is made possible by financial support from the Stasiuk Endowment Fund at CIUS.

Three-year Stasiuk Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship for the Study of Modern and Contemporary Ukraine 2016
The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS), Faculty of Arts, University of Alberta will offer one three-year post-doctoral research fellowship to support the study of modern and contemporary Ukraine. The fellowship, in the humanities and social sciences, is made possible by financial support from the Stasiuk Endowment Fund at CIUS. In order to qualify, applicants must have received a PhD or Candidate of Sciences degree (if from Ukraine or another post-Soviet country) within the past three years at the time of application. Applications will also be accepted from PhD candidates whose degree is expected to be conferred before the end of the fall 2016 semester.
Although all applications in fields associated with the humanities and social sciences will be considered, research proposals in the areas of identities, nationalism, regions, borders, social values, and historical politics and memory will be given preference. Successful applicants are expected to take up their post-doctoral appointments at CIUS beginning July 1, 2016, and no later than January 1, 2017. A holder of the fellowship will be known as a Stasiuk Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (SPDRF). In addition to working on her/his main research project, the SPDRF will act as academic coordinator of the Contemporary Ukraine Studies Program (CUSP) at CIUS and is expected to assist and participate in the institute’s planning and activities.
